Providing Services To People With Disabilities
PENALTY BOX RESTAURANT is committed to excellence in serving all customers including people with disabilities. The following statement on providing service to people with disabilities may be revised as other standards are introduced under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
General Commitment
All staff and management shall use reasonable efforts to ensure that its policies, practices and procedures are consistent with providing services in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities.
Assistive Devices and Mobility Aids
We are committed to serving people with disabilities who use assistive devices to benefit from our goods and services. Staff will be familiar with assistive devices that may be used by customers. Customers using mobility aids may choose where they are most comfortable waiting in the restaurant. Staff will offer to bring the customer’s food to that location and bring a wireless payment terminal to the customer, where needed, so they can pay without having to use the service counter.
Service Counters and Future Builds
Staff will make reasonable efforts to provide accessible service at our counters. If a customer cannot comfortably reach or use a service counter, staff will offer an alternative way to order, receive food and pay. Any future builds, construction or renovations subject to accessibility requirements will meet the applicable requirements of the AODA and its regulations.
Communication
We will communicate with people with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability. Staff will speak directly to the customer, ask what assistance or communication method works best, and follow the customer’s direction.
Service Animals and Support Persons
We welcome people with disabilities and their service animals in areas of our premises that are open to the public, subject to applicable legal restrictions. We also welcome people with disabilities who are accompanied by support persons in areas open to the public. Staff will not separate a customer from their support person while on the premises. If a service animal is legally excluded from a particular area, staff will work with the customer to identify another way to access our goods and services.
Training
We will provide staff and management with our Accessible Customer Service Plan. We will train staff on how to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities, including customers who use assistive devices, service animals or support persons, and how to offer accessible service and payment options.
Notice of Temporary Disruptions
If a facility or service that customers with disabilities usually rely on is temporarily unavailable, we will provide notice as soon as practicable. The notice will include the reason for the disruption, its anticipated duration, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. Notices will be posted in a conspicuous location near the affected area and, where appropriate, at the entrance. Staff should notify management promptly when a disruption occurs.
Feedback Process
We encourage feedback from customers and staff on the way Penalty Box Restaurant provides goods and services to people with disabilities. Please direct comments to info@penaltyboxrestaurant.com.
